Hair that moves, with Adam Peterson

I had such a fun opportunity to work on set for Adam Peterson, the star of man vs. food and his newest series of AP best sandwich in America. I believe this is when fans of the restaurant write in and nominate their favorite sandwich. This happened to feature Jumping Jays fish Cafe in Portsmouth NH. I hung out there all day, and the weight staff was so nice to me!

So anyway, I was hired to do Adams makeup. you may be laughing but, with HD tv now you need to look the best you can. So I helped him to look fresh, even while standing by the hot ovens for over an hour!

Probably the best place to start is online. There are literally hundreds of photo galleries dedicated to updos and formal hairstyles alone. By browsing these sites, you can find numerous styles and print them out so that you can share them with your stylist. All you need to do to find these photo galleries is perform a quick search for updos in your favorite search engine. Many of these sites also have how to articles to help you do your hair yourself at home.

Another great way to find unique formal styles is to browse through your salon’s style books and portfolios. In most salons, there are stylists that specialize in different updo techniques. A salon might have one stylist who can create amazing braided and basket weaved updos whereas another stylist may be able to create sleek timeless classics perfectly. By looking through a portfolio and seeing each stylist’s actual work, you can get a feel of whether or not their style would suit your preferences. And you can get a glimpse of signature styles that you cannot find anywhere else.

The before face

So as most of you know I am very passionate about helping people with my trade. I have been volunteering for 3 years with the national cancer society with the Look good feel better program at the seacoast cancer center at the Wentworth Douglas hospital in Dover, NH with my pal Joanne McDonough from joya beauty. We help ladies with their hair, or wig care and styling and help them to put on some makeup so they can feel better about themselves while they are in treatment. It is a wonderful program that we wished we could touch more people with. Yesterday we had a young women that had just had her 6 hour chemo the day before and came to our program for a pick me up. So we were able to help her, teach her how to draw in some eye brows, line her eyes where she would eye liner, even out her skin and make her feel pretty. I am so excited that this young lady was willing to share her photos. I wish she had a hair transformation but like most ladies she has opted out of a wig, they are uncomfortable and she wears nothing or just a baseball hat.

I wish her all the best in her and all of our other attendees that are in treatment and hope she take away her beauty tricks for years to come.

I loved creating beauty at this wonderful Prouts neck ,Maine wedding. Coupled with great vendors, this bride was a pleasure to work with. The thing that is clearest in my mind was the us open blaring in the bar below us and all the guests enjoying the game as the bridal party cringed that they were getting pretty instead of joining the party!

It all worked out!

Amazing color, textured headbands and clips are on the ride this spring. Fun boho feel, low forehead placed bands are also in. I love this look, so fun!

After

I had the opportunity to work with another great photographer, another  great vendor I consider my friend. You may recognize her from her love recaptured post, however, I went to help her with her get dolled up for some new head shots she needed for our ever changing web sites. I felt like this may be a perfect example how spending money for hair and makeup can really effect a photo (of course great photography skill as well:). So if you are spending money and time for a photo session, professionally, or personally, I strongly suggest having this done. A little biased I know, but look! Not only are the photos amazing, courtesy of Justin and Mary, but Deb looks amazing. She looks polished and glamorous. I smoothed out her gorgeous curls for a softer look and airbrushed her skin to look creaming and flawless. Who could forget- lashes and sexy eyes! That is what we all want- flawless yet sexy yet still resembling ourselves!
